# Signed for every person, and kept.

Palaestral is booking, payments and client-record software for an independent instructor who sells their own time — surf, yoga, running, strength. A booking is confirmed only once your waiver is signed for every person on it, and for a child by their parent or guardian. Each signature is kept with the text it was made on, for as long as it can still be evidence.

- 11 years a waiver signed for a nine-year-old is kept

## The text you write

A new account starts with a short, general waiver, and the words are yours: whether it suits what you teach is for you to decide. Each edit publishes a new version, straight away or from a day you choose.

Every version stays listed beside the one in force, and each signature keeps pointing at the text that was on screen when it was made. A client who books a lesson weekly signs once, and that signature covers each week until you change the text; then no week is paid for until they sign again.

## Who signs, and how

The person booking signs for everybody on the booking, each by name, signed in through a link sent to the address they booked with: that is how a signature is known to be theirs. A booking is confirmed only once it is signed for every person on it.

A signature in any name but that of the person it is for does not count, though capitals and spacing are ignored. Each records the text signed, when, the account that signed it and where it was signed from. An assistant can make a booking for somebody, and the person still signs on the booking's own page.

## A child on the booking

Anyone under 18 is signed for by a parent or guardian, named on the signature beside them, and no setting turns that off.

The booking form asks every client's age unless you turn that off, and then anybody whose age is not given signs as an adult. A lesson can also set a minimum age, and then the form always asks.

## How long it is kept

A signed waiver is kept for 5 years, or a child's until they are 20, whichever is later. California pauses the clock on a claim until a child turns 18, which is why a child's waiver is kept past it.

Nobody can delete a signed waiver before then, you included. A client's request to be deleted keeps it, and so does closing your account: a waiver is evidence in exactly the situation it was signed for. The [privacy page](https://palaestral.com/privacy) lists everything kept and for how long.

## Finding one later

Any booking opens the waivers signed for it: the text as it read, who signed, for whom, and when.

A copy of your records holds every signed waiver as a page of its own, with who signed it and where from, and you can download that copy whenever you choose.

## What stays with you

- Every version of your waiver, and which one each signature was made on.
- Every signed waiver, for its whole period, whatever is deleted around it.
- A copy of each one, in the file of your records you can download.
