Palaestral

Accessibility.

The standard Palaestral's pages are held to, and exactly how each one is checked.

The standard

Palaestral's pages are built to WCAG 2.2 at level AA: this site, the pages a client books and signs on, the console an instructor works in, and the instructor app.

What is checked

These checks are part of the tests every change to Palaestral passes.

  • Every page of this site is opened in a browser, in its light theme and its dark one, at a phone's width of 390 pixels and a desktop's of 1280, and checked by axe against WCAG 2.2 at level AA — the contrast of its text and the size of everything that can be pressed included. The menu a phone opens is checked open, too.
  • Every page has one first-level heading and skips no level below it, starts with a link past the header to the page itself, and is laid out in landmarks a screen reader can move between.
  • No style hides the outline that shows where the keyboard is.
  • Every page fits a phone's screen with nothing scrolling sideways.
  • The week on the front page moves only on a device that has not asked for less motion, and is shown still on one that has.
  • Every page of the console and of booking, and every screen of the instructor app, is checked by axe in a test, which lays nothing out and so measures no contrast.

What the checks miss

A check finds some problems and misses others. It cannot tell whether a sentence makes sense read aloud, or whether a whole booking can be made with a screen reader alone. If something on Palaestral is hard to use, write to hello@palaestral.com with what you were trying to do.
