Palaestral and Momence
Which is better, Palaestral or Momence?
It depends on what you run. Momence is built for studios, naming yoga, pilates, dance, indoor cycling, fitness and boutique studios, with bookings, payments and marketing in one platform, and it says a small or solo yoga studio can run it single-handed.14 Palaestral suits an independent instructor who sells their own time: one link that takes the booking, collects a signed waiver for every person and charges the card into the instructor's own Stripe account, with nothing added to the client's price. Instructor signups for Palaestral open in January 2027.

What is Momence?
Momence is studio software that brings bookings, payments and marketing together in one platform.1 Its site names yoga, pilates, dance, indoor cycling, fitness and gym, and boutique studios among the businesses it serves, and says thousands of fitness and wellness businesses use it.1 Its features also include an AI inbox, automated marketing sequences, staff roles and instructor substitutions, on-demand video, and retail and inventory.3
What is Palaestral?
Booking, waivers and payments for an instructor who sells their own time, such as surf, yoga, running or strength, where one instructor is a complete customer. There is no marketplace, no feed and no ranking: people reach an instructor's page through the instructor's own links and through search, never through a Palaestral directory of instructors.
Instructor signups open in January 2027. Until then the list on Get started is open, and the demo runs Palaestral's own screens in a browser over a made-up week.
How does booking work in each?
Momence schedules classes, appointments, workshops, events, retreats, spaces and on-demand experiences on one calendar.13 Its waitlists promote automatically when a spot opens.5 Customers book through the Momence app, which costs customers nothing and in which they cannot search for other businesses, or through a custom branded app, and a business can embed its schedule and booking on its own website or use Momence's auto-generated business pages.3
On Palaestral, an instructor's page lives at palaestral.com/i/your-name, under a name that is theirs, and lists the next 14 days of times anybody can book. A lesson's days and hour are set once, and its times are made 120 days ahead in the lesson's own time zone. A private lesson has one seat and a small group has more, and nothing can book the instructor into two places at once. A full time takes a queue of 2 places for every seat, and a freed seat is held for the next person in line. A client books with a name and an email address, with no account to make and nothing to install, and can move their own booking up to 3 times while cancelling would still refund it in full.
How do payments work, and whose account is paid?
Momence takes card payments through Stripe, connected from its Get Paid settings, where a business creates a new Stripe account rather than connecting an existing one.6 Payouts follow the daily, weekly, monthly or manual schedule chosen in the Stripe Dashboard, and Momence says that in most cases the first payout arrives 7 to 14 days after a business starts taking payments, depending on Stripe's rules for its country.6 Momence says it does not issue 1099 forms, and that the 1099-K is found in the Stripe Express dashboard.7 Momence collects payments online and in person, by card and by direct debit, and supports payment plans.3 A business can choose how much of the card and direct-debit fees its customers pay, in 5% steps.8
On Palaestral, a client pays by card on Stripe's own payment page, into a Stripe account that belongs to the instructor. The instructor is the merchant: the money is theirs, Stripe bills its processing to them, and any 1099-K is issued in their name. Stripe pays the balance out on the schedule that account sets, and the instructor's money never sits with Palaestral on the way: the one part of a payment that passes through is a studio's share, where the instructor teaches at a studio that keeps one. There are no bank debits. A booking is refunded on the terms it was sold under, and a chargeback is the instructor's to answer from their own Stripe dashboard.
What about packs, memberships and waivers?
Momence sells memberships, packs, intro offers, drop-ins and subscriptions.1 It offers unlimited, usage-limited or trial memberships.3 Momence's custom waivers are written under its waiver settings, and a customer signs one on the business's device or from a link sent by email, after which it shows on the customer's profile.9
On Palaestral, a membership charges one price a month for a number of visits or unlimited ones, and a member can pause for up to 90 days. A lesson pack sells lessons used as they are booked, any pack can be bought as a gift, and a client can make a lesson weekly to keep their seat. A booking is confirmed only once the instructor's waiver is signed for every person on it, each by name, and for anyone under 18 by a parent or guardian. A signed waiver is kept for 5 years, or a child's until they are 20, whichever is later, and nobody can delete one before then.
What does each keep about a client?
Momence keeps attendance, purchases, memberships, messages and marketing activity on one customer record.4 Staff can add notes to a customer's profile, and SOAP notes tied to classes or appointments.11
On Palaestral, everybody who books, buys a pack, is given lessons or pays for a membership month is on one record of what they booked, signed and paid. An instructor's notes about a client are kept 24 months from the day each was written, and a studio the instructor teaches at sees none of them. A copy of everything Palaestral holds about the instructor arrives as one file: each record a spreadsheet and each signed waiver a page.
Does it put my lessons in my own calendar?
Momence connects to Google Calendar one way: classes and appointments created, edited or cancelled in Momence appear there, and a change made in Google Calendar does not reach Momence.10 Momence says updates typically sync almost immediately, with possible delays from Google's rate limits.10
Palaestral publishes an instructor's teaching schedule as one calendar address to subscribe to from Apple Calendar, Google Calendar or Outlook. It also flows one way, out: a change made in Palaestral reaches the calendar, nothing the calendar holds comes back, and no calendar is signed into or read. It covers every place the instructor teaches and carries no client's name, note or price. How often a calendar reads the address is up to the app that reads it: Google Calendar's help, as of October 20, 2026, names no setting for it, and Google Calendar checks on its own schedule.14
What does each cost?
As read on October 20, 2026, Momence's pricing page lists no plans or prices: it asks a business to describe itself so that Momence can put together pricing that fits.2 Its yoga page says a business can start on it without paying.4
Palaestral's pricing is set before signups open in January 2027, and nothing is charged before then. Card processing is Stripe's, billed to the instructor's own Stripe account, which sets the rate they pay; Stripe's standard US card rate is 2.9% + 30¢ a charge as of October 20, 2026.13 A client pays exactly the price an instructor lists, and nothing is added to it.
How would I move from Momence?
Momence's switching page describes moving into Momence: eligible businesses get a dedicated specialist who coordinates eligible data migration.12
Palaestral takes a spreadsheet of the people an instructor already teaches, up to 1,000 rows at a time: names and email addresses, notes and the lessons each has left. Every line is shown before anything is written, nobody in the list is told anything unless the instructor asks, and an import can be undone for 14 days while nobody has been told and none of its lessons has been spent.
